Thornhill Primary School are a primary school based in Shildon. They have just submitted for the Bronze level of the award, and have already made a flying start! Find out how they have been getting on!
Why did you decide to sign up to the BHAWA?
A Governor recommended the BHAW programme and we thought it would be a good way to do something for the staff to promote keeping healthy and support our mental health.
How do you find that the award benefits the organisation, and its employees?
We have enjoyed taking part in a variety of challenges and it has been great for staff morale and bringing us together as a team. It has also helped us all be more aware of what we need to do to live a more healthy lifestyle.
What kind of activities have you organised in line with the award so far?
We have taken part in a Step Challenge to walk to Mount Everest, a Walking Challenge of Great Britain, Fruity Friday, Mindfulness activities and a Yoga challenge. We also ran individual health checks for staff and participated in a healthy eating workshop. As well as those activities, we had some fun team building activities such as Axe-Throwing and a Staff V Pupil's Netball match.
